Today, 8 June, marks World Ocean Day, celebrated around the world to highlight the importance of the world’s oceans and its marine wide life. Pakistan’s offshore territory extends for a total area of 290,000 sqkm and is home to a diverse variety of marine life. 5) Leatherback sea turtle
Leatherback sea turtle is the largest of all living turtles, reaching lengths of 9 ft and weighting up to a ton. These turtles can be found in the waters off the coast of Baluchistan but face threats from human activities and pollution.
4) Whale Shark
Whale Shark is the largest species of fish and is also among the largest animals found in the waters off the coast of Pakistan. The species is endangered is threatened by industrial population and human activity. The shark is harmless to humans.
3) Bryde’s whale
Bryde’s whale is a moderate sized whale species that can be found within the country’s water. They prefer warm tropical water such as those of the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea.

Distributed worldwide, the Humpback whales may be seen off the coast of Pakistan and despite their size and appearance are very friendly in nature.
1) Blue Whale
Blue Whale is the largest animal ever to exist with some specimens exceeding lengths of 90ft and weighing close to 180 tons. A subpopulation of these whales is found within the northern Indian Ocean off the coast of Oman and Pakistan.
